Bhubaneswar
""Bhubaneswar"" is the Capital of the State of Orissa (ancient Kalinga). It is famous for its more than 600 temples, most of which date back almost 1000 years. The largest and best known is the Lingaraja Temple, built in the 11th century. At proximity to the city, at Dhaulagiri, are the rock edicts of Ashoka, narrating the conversion of the Maurya Emperor Ashoka to Buddhism after his bloody victory in the Kalinga wars. The earlier capital of the Kalinga Kingdom (2nd century), at proximity to Bhubaneswar also, is said to be the fortified city of Sisupalgarh, of which only ruins remain.
