Bernard Cribbins



         


Bernard Cribbins (born December 29, 1928) is a British character actor and musical comedian. He was born in Oldham, Lancashire.

Early in his career, he released a number of comedy records, including the famous "Right Said Fred" (in which a group of workmen struggle to move a piano) and "Hole in the Ground". He has appeared in many British films, including three Carry On films, one of the Doctor Who films, and as the station porter, Perks, in The Railway Children. He was the narrator of the British animated children's TV series The Wombles. He also narrated a celebrated BBC radio adaptation of The Wind in the Willows. Other television appearances included Fawlty Towers, as the spoon salesman Mr Hutchinson (mistaken by Basil Fawlty for an inspector) in the episode "The Hotel Inspectors" (1975).

In 2003 he played dirty old man Wally Bannister in the long running soap, Coronation Street
