Beef jerky

Beef jerky is essentially beef that's been cut into strips, marinated, and dried (originally in the sun). The result is a strip of rather salty beef that can be stored for long periods of time, similar to pemmican.

In more recent times beef jerky has evolved into a cheap snack-food, typically in the shape of a long rod, and heavily spiced. Traditional beef jerky, made from sliced meat, is readily available the USA in specialty stores and websites.
