Beedrill is a fictional Pokémon character. Beedrill, which means spear in Japanese, is a Stage 2 bug-type that evolves from Kakuna at level 10. Beedrill can fly at high speeds and possesses three poisonous barbs, two at its forelegs and one at its tail. It sometimes appears in swarms.

Name origin

The name Beedrill originates from the words bee and drill.

Availability

In Pokémon Red/Blue and Yellow, Beedrill can be obtained by evolving Kakuna. In Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Beedrill can also be found in the National Park. In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Beedrill is not available at all.

Strengths / weaknesses

Beedrill is vulnerable to Fire, Flying, Psychic, Rock and - in Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow - Bug, and strong against Grass, Fighting and - in Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal - Poison and Bug.

Anime appearances

Beedrill first appeared in the Pokémon Anime when Ash was going through Viridian Forest, putting him into a life-threatening situation that only his Butterfree could save him from. The only problem is that it remained as the un-evolved Metapod during most of the episode.

It also appeared again in the Johto National Park during the Bug-catching contest in which Ash participated.

Beedrill swarms also appear as large threats or obstacles in many other episdoes, or as a trainer's pokémon.
