Bedford Institute of Oceanography

The Bedford Institute of Oceanography is Canada's largest center for ocean research. It is also the first major federal center devoted to oceanography in Canada. Spread out over 40 acres (160,000 m²), it is composed of 4 government departments which perform targeted research mandated by government or in partnership, advise on marine environments, provide navigational charts covering George's Bank to the Canadian Arctic, and respond to environmental emergencies.
