Balti is the name for a style of food first devised in Birmingham, England around the 1970s. The food is a curry-style dish, taking its name from the steel or iron pot in which it is cooked and served, the balti (literally, "bucket"). Normally the balti is served with naan bread; pieces of which are used to scoop up the curry sauce. The food and its style of presentation proved very popular, and Balti restaurants have gradually opened up throughout a large part of Britain.
There is even one in Australia, called, appropriately, the Brum Balti, and which plays a non-stop selection of tunes by Birmingham bands such as Electric Light Orchestra and The Moody Blues.
