Avalonia

Avalonia was a palæomicrocontinent also known as a Terrane. The name is derived from the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland. In the early Cambrian, Pannotia broke up and Avalonia broke off of Gondwana. Avalonia collided with Baltica in the Ordovician. In the Silurian, Baltica and Laurentia collided with Avalonia and trapped Avalonia between them, forming Euramerica. In the Permian, Euramerica became part of Pangæa. In the Jurassic, Pangæa split into Laurasia and Gondwana, with Avalonia as part of Laurasia. In the Cretaceous, Laurasia broke up into North America and Eurasia with Avalonia split between them.
