Atreyu is an indie rock band, named after the protaganist in the movie The Never Ending Story.
In December of 2001, Atreyu released their debut EP on Tribunal Records. It was entitled "Fractures in the Facade of Your Porcelain Beauty," and had only a few songs. A year later, "Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses" was released. It includes some of their most popular songs, including Tulips Are Better, Lip Gloss and Black, and A Vampire's Lament.
Atreyu's lead vocalist is Alex Varkatzas. He fulfills the angry, bitter sounds of the band, while the drummer, Brandon Saller, takes the more peaceful, melodious singing. The two contrasting voices combine to evoke strong mental images, which is perhaps one of Atreyu's keys to success.
Besides excellent vocals, Atreyu has high quality instrumental solos. Marc McKnight is the bassist of the band, while the talented Travis Miguel plays lead guitar. If you need an example of Travis's skill, listen to the intro for Bleeding Mascara. The speed alone makes that song difficult, and the technical qualities of the music are advanced as well.
More recently, "The Curse" was released. This album contains such haunting songs as The Crimson and The Rememberance Ballad.
Atreyu's lyrics are deep and meaningful, revolving around such concepts as the meaning of life, love, revenge, hatred, and depression. An example of Atreyu's lyrical depth comes in during the song The Rememberance Ballad.
These days are closing in\The end has become apparent\We're only here for so long\Will anyone remember my name\When time has washed away the dust of our ashes?\When my head rests in a velvet lined casket?
