From 1972 to 1980, the Atlanta Flames were the National Hockey League team in Atlanta. Games were played at the Omni Coliseum (now demolished). They were never very successful, as they never got further than the 1st round of the NHL playoffs. Their best season was 41-31-8 in 1978-79. Their best players were goaltender Dan Bouchard and forward Guy Chouinard. The team moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada after the 1980 season, and are now called the Calgary Flames. Atlanta now has another NHL team, the Atlanta Thrashers.
