AtheOS (a contraction of Athena operating system) is a free software Unix-like operating system for x86-based computers. It was created entirely by a Norwegian programmer, Kurt Skauen, from 1994 to the early 2000s.
The author also ported Khtml to create for AtheOS the ABrowse web browser.
After development of AtheOS was stalled for a substantial period of time, a group of AtheOS programmers formed the Syllable project in 2002; development of the system is currently continued under the Syllable operating system code-fork.
