Captain Arthur Roy Brown (DFC and bar) (23 December, 1893–9 March, 1944) was a Canadian World War I flying ace who is officially credited with shooting down Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron.
Brown scored 10 confirmed kills; his first was an Albatros D.III near Nieuport on 17 July, 1917 while flying a Sopwith Pup. Brown was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on 6 December 1917.
His claim to fame occured on 21 April, 1918, when he spotted von Richthofen's Fokker Dr.I pursuing the Sopwith Camel of his wingman Wop May. Brown himself pursued the German pilot in response and fired a single burst which seem to be effective bring him down. At the same time, Australian machine-gunners where firing on the Red Baron and it is argued that they were the actual killers of the pilot.
However, Brown was the one who received the official credit for the kill and was awarded a bar to his DFC. The Red Baron was his tenth and last victory of the war.
