Archie Bunker's Place
Archie Bunker's Place was a CBS sitcom that had previously been known as All in the Family. In 1979, All in the Family was retooled, and renamed as Archie Bunker's Place. While not as popular as All in the Family, the show was popular enough with fans to last four seasons, until 1983.
In this series, Archie Bunker had purchased his favorite tavern, Kelsey's Place, from its owner when his health declined. Archie soon renamed the tavern Archie's Place. While the house was still seen from time to time, more of the action took place at the bar, which served as a sounding board for Archie's views.
Main Characters
- Carroll O'Connor as Archie Bunker, a bigoted blue-collar worker whose ignorant stubbornness tends to cause his arguments to self-destruct.
- Jean Stapleton continued to play Edith "Dingbat" Bunker, Archie's traditional but at times outspoken wife. Edith was seen occasionally through the first season, and decided to leave after the first season. At that point, Edith was written out as having suffered a heart attack and died off camera, leaving Archie to deal with the death of his beloved "Dingbat." Eventually Archie had begun dating again.
- Martin Balsam as Murray Klein. Murray was Archie's Jewish partner, who had similar views to Archie's son-in-law Mike.
- Danielle Brisebois as Stephanie Mills. Stephanie was taken in by Archie and Edith after her father had abandoned her during the final season of All in the Family after Mike and Gloria left for California.
- Barbara Meek portrayed Ellen Canby. Ellen was a black housekeeper who was hired by Archie. She also took care of Stephanie, and kept Archie's views in check.
- In 1981, Denise Miller joined the cast as Archie's niece Barbara Lee 'Billie' Bunker.
Sally Struthers returned as Gloria a few episodes. She had returned from California with her daughter after having divorced Michael, who had ran off to a commune.
