Annie Lennox

Annie Lennox (born December 25, 1954) is a singer from Aberdeen, Scotland.

As a child, she attended a school for the exceptionally intelligent. She also studied the flute at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

She is best known for having been the lead singer of the Eurythmics. Prior to that, she had some success as lead singer of The Tourists. After the break-up with Dave Stewart, the other half of the Eurythmics, in 1990, she began her long and very successful solo career. Eurythmics had a highly successful career garnering numerous singles and awards. They recently regrouped in 1999 for the album Peace.

The soundtrack to Peter Jackson's movie The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) features the song Into The West, written by Fran Walsh, Howard Shore and Annie Lennox and performed by Lennox, which won the Academy Award for Best Song, one of the 11 Oscars the movie received at the 76th Academy Awards.

She also recorded Use Well the Days for the movie, which incorporates numerous quotations from Tolkien in its lyrics. This song was not used in the theatrical version, but appears on a bonus DVD included with the "special edition" of the movie's soundtrack CD.
