Anil Radhakrishna Kumble (born October 17, 1970 in Bangalore, Karnataka) is an Indian cricketer.
Kumble is primarily a bowler, a right arm leg spinner. He has an unorthodox style and is most famous for his googly. He started his career as a medium pacer; this has given him a useful faster delivery. He has a good economy rate. He and Javagal Srinath formed the Indian pace-spin duo of the 1990s.
Kumble is one of the only two cricket players ever (the other being Jim Laker) to have taken all 10 wickets in a Test innings.
As of 27 July, 2004, Anil Kumble is close to capturing 400 wickets in Tests and has also taken 318 ODI wickets. His Test batting average is a decent 16.54, however his unconvincing running in ODIs, leading to a fairly ordinary average of 10.62, has stopped him from becoming a genuine cricketing all-rounder. His fielding is decent but not outstanding.
Kumble has largely evaded the general public's eye throughout his career, but his work for the Indian cricket team is invaluable. He is perhaps India's best current spinner in a side which has mainly fast bowlers.
