Andrews AFB is a town located in Prince George's County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,925.

This "town" is actually Andrews Air Force Base.

Geography

Andrews AFB is located at 38°48'13" North, 76°52'17" West (38.803490, -76.871508)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 17.7 km² (6.8 mi²). 17.7 km² (6.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 7,925 people, 1,932 households, and 1,864 families residing in the base. The population density is 447.3/km² (1,158.9/mi²). There are 2,133 housing units at an average density of 120.4/km² (311.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the base is 65.30% White, 22.78% African American, 0.64% Native American, 3.17% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 3.65% from other races, and 4.35% from two or more races. 8.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,932 households out of which 75.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 86.1% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 3.5% are non-families. 3.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.39 and the average family size is 3.44.

The age distribution of the base is: 35.0% under the age of 18, 16.3% from 18 to 24, 44.9% from 25 to 44, 3.6% from 45 to 64, and 0.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 119.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 126.0 males. The age and sex distributions, and the median age, are all typical for military bases.

The median income for a household in the base is $44,310, and the median income for a family is $42,866. Males have a median income of $27,070 versus $27,308 for females. The per capita income for the base is $16,520. 2.4% of the population and 2.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 2.8% are under the age of 18 and 0.0% are 65 or older.
