Lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone, Andrew (Andy) Wood, died of a heroin overdose just before the release of their debut album "Apple". He was age 24 when he died on March 19, 1990. Fellow band members Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament went on to form Pearl Jam which successfully records and performs as of 2004.
