Andreea Raducan

Andreea Madalina Răducan (born September 30, 1983) is a gymnast from Birlad, Romania. She competed in artistic gymnastics at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, winning gold in the team event and silver on the vault. Her gold obtained in the women's individual all-around was removed after she tested positive for pseudoephedrine, a banned drug. The previous night, the 16-year old had taken Nurofen, a common over-the-counter medicine, to help treat a fever. The Romanian team doctor who gave her the drug in two cold medicine pills was expelled from the Games and suspended through the 2002 Winter Olympics at Salt Lake City and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The gold medal was awarded to Răducan's teammate Simona Amânar, the silver medalist. Răducan was allowed to keep her other medals, as her drug tests after those events were normal.

Despite the controversy, Răducan is still seen as a positive and even sympathetic figure. She is currently a sports announcer in Romania.
