Amanda Marshall
Amanda Marshall (born August 29, 1972 in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian pop-rock singer.
Marshall studied music extensively in childhood, including at the Toronto Conservatory Of Music.
While performing on the Queen Street West bar scene in her teens, she met guitarist Jeff Healey, who was struck by Marshall's powerful voice and took her on tour. She was offered a record deal by Columbia Records in 1991, but declined as she felt she wasn't yet ready.
In 1996, Marshall signed to Sony Records, and released her self-titled debut album that year. The album was a massive hit in Canada, spawning six Top 40 hits -- "Let It Rain", "Birmingham", "Beautiful Goodbye", "Dark Horse", "Fall From Grace" and "Sitting On Top Of The World". It was also a significant hit internationally.
In 1999, she released her follow-up album, Tuesday's Child.
Marshall is multiracial; her father is Caucasian and her mother is Caribbean-Canadian.
