AMIA bombing

The AMIA bombing was a terrorist attack on the AMIA Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It took place on 18 July, 1994 and destroyed the 7 story building killing 85 people and injuring more than 200. It was caused by a car bomb exploding outside the building. Argentina is home to the largest Jewish community in Latin America.

Nobody has yet been convicted of the bombing and there have been many allegations including those blaming the government of Iran. There have been allegations that former president Carlos Menem accepted money from the Iranian government to block the investigation.

It followed the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires which killed 29.
