Alpheus

In Greek mythology, Alpheus, or Alpheios (meaning whitish) was a river and river-god, thus like most river-gods a son of Oceanus and Tethys. He fell in love with Arethusa, a nymph, and chased her to Sicily.

Artemis changed her into a fountain. He swam underwater to be with her and mingled his waters with hers.
