Alfa Romeo 147

The Alfa Romeo 147 was launched in 2000 as replacement for the ageing 145 three-door and 146 five-door hatchbacks. It was based on the running gear of the larger 156 saloon and Sportwagon estate.

On the outside, the Alfa Romeo was easily the most stylish family car on sale in Europe. Power came from refined 1.6 and 2.0 16-valve engines which were mated to a sharp chassis, giving a driving experience which matched the car's distinctive appearance.

Alfa Romeo decided that 147 drivers should have a sportier alternative to the standard range, so in 2002 launched the 147 GTA. The GTA used a 3.2 engine, produced 250bhp and could exceed 150mph. It was officially the fastest-ever 'hot hatch'.
