Akita (秋田市; Akita-shi) is the capital city of Akita prefecture in the Tohoku region of Japan.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 317,978 and the density of 691.11 persons per km². The total area is 460.10 km².
The city was founded on April 1, 1889.
