Abruzzi (or, more correctly, Abruzzo, in the singular form) is a region of south central Italy, formerly a part of the Abruzzi e Molise region (with Molise). It borders Marche to the north-west, Umbria to the west, Lazio to the south, Molise to the south-east and the Adriatic Sea to the east.
The region covers 10,794 km² and has a population of about 1.3 million.
The regional capital is L'Aquila. The region is divided into four provinces: L'Aquila, Teramo, Chieti and Pescara, Abruzzo's main economic centre.
The region is rich in natural beauties and history, but has still to be discovered by the mass tourism. Abruzzo's richness in castles and medium-age towns, especially in the L'Aquila's neighborhood, has granted him the nickname of "Abruzzoshire", in analogy to the "Chiantishire" nickname, under which is even known the Tuscany ( Toscana ).
Some small towns in Abruzzi include Avezzano, Collelongo, Villavallelonga, Sulmona, Gissi, Rocca di Mezzo near Campo Felice, a ski resort in the Gran Sasso Mountains, and Ovindoli, another ski resort near the Regions of Italy || |- | align="center" style="font-size: 90%;" colspan="2" | Regular Regions |- | align="center" style="font-size: 90%;" colspan="2" | Abruzzo | Basilicata | Calabria | Campania | Emilia-Romagna | Lazio (Latium) | Liguria | Lombardia (Lombardy) | Marche | Molise | Piemonte (Piedmont) | Puglia (Apulia) | Toscana (Tuscany) | Umbria | Veneto | |- | align="center" style="font-size: 90%;" colspan="2" | Regions with special autonomous status |- | align="center" style="font-size: 90%;" colspan="2" | Friuli-Venezia Giulia | Sardegna (Sardinia) | Sicilia (Sicily) | Trentino-Alto Adige (Trentino-South Tyrol) | Valle d'Aosta (Aosta Valley) |}
