Abrams v. United States (
1919) upheld the WW1
Sedition Act of 1918 which made it a criminal offense to criticize the U.S. Government. It was decided by a 7-2 vote, with Justices
Oliver Wendell Holmes and
Louis Brandeis dissenting. It was finally overturned during the
Vietnam War era.
