Volvo P2 platform

The D3 (or Volvo P2) is Ford's global full size car automobile platform. It was designed by Volvo in association with Ford and debuted with the Volvo S80 sedan in early 2002. The platform is designed for either front- or all wheel drive with an extended wheelbase option.

Ford's D3 is slightly different from Volvo's P2. It features steel, rather than aluminum, suspension arms, and other cost-saving measures. Ford's D3 vehicles are built in Chicago, Illinois and Atlanta, Georgia.

Note that there is also a Ford CD3 platform which is different and is based on Mazda technology.

• Volvo XC70
• Volvo S80
• Volvo XC90

Future models include the following:

• 2005 Ford Five Hundred sedan (D258)
• 2005 Ford Freestyle station wagon (D219)
• 2005 Mercury Montego sedan (D333)
• Lincoln unnamed sedan (D385) (could be a replacement for the Lincoln LS)
• Lincoln unnamed large sedan (E386) (could be a V8 AWD replacement for the Lincoln Town Car)
