Visual effects
Visual Effects is the term given to a sub-category of Special Effects in which images are recorded and manipulated. Visual effects are sually planned in Preproduction and created in Production and Postproduction.
Visual Effects may be subdivided into four categories:
- Models - miniature sets, animatronic models
- Matte Paintings and Stills - paintings, background plates
- Live-action effects - actors or animatronics against backgrounds
- Digital: animation - cell or computer generated characters or images
Special Effects also cover another sub-category of Physical Effects.
