United front

A united front is a political tactic used by communist parties to create a broad alliance including some non-communist parties. Critics of the tactics argue that the united front is merely a means for a communist party to gain power upon which the non-communists exist at best to maintain a fiction of political pluralism.

An example of the united front is that of the Communist Party of China which has a special department known as the United Front Department which handles relations with subordinate political parties. Also as part of the United Front ideology, most state committees of the People's Republic of China have at least one seat reserved for a non-member of the Communist Party.
