The Belle Stars were an all-women band from England associated with percussive and soulful punk pop music. They are known in the United States for their cover version of "Iko Iko," which charted in 1989, and which originally appeared on their 1983 self titled album. After initially failing on the US charts, it became a hit after it was featured in the movie Rain Man.
In the United Kingdom they achieved seven hit singles between 1982 and 1984. The most successful of these were their cover version of Shirley Ellis's "The Clapping Song" which reached number 11 in 1982, and an original song "Sign Of The Times", which reached number 3 in 1983.
The group evolved from an earlier formation which performed under the name The Bodysnatchers.
