Stage

A stage is a step in a process.

The stage on a river, creek, or stream is the height of the water on a gauge. Flood stage occurs when it begins to overflow and flood surrounding areas.

A stage is a platform upon which performers act. Stages are often elevated to allow the audience to see performers more clearly. Stages are typically found in theaters, but are used in other environments as well. The term the stage, like the term the theater, is often used as a metonymy to designate the totality of activities, facilities, and persons surrounding the production and presentation of plays.
