Shoeburyness is a town in South East Essex, England situated at the mouth of the river Thames. It is within the administrative boundaries of the Borough of Southend-on-Sea.
It is also a fictional term coined in a humurous dictionary written by Douglas Adams The Meaning of Liff and there refers to the vague uncomfortable feeling you get when sitting on a seat which is still warm from sombody else's bottom.
