Sabiha Gokcen (Sabiha Gökçen) (1913-2001) was the first female military pilot in the world. She was born in Bursa, Turkey.
Gokcen was adopted by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1925. Gokcen finished her pilot training at Turk Kusu Aviation Academy in 1935. In 1936, she continued her education at Eskisehir Military Aviation School.
In 1937, she joined the maneuvers of Dersim.
On January 8, 2001, she was honoured by the newly constructed airport, Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, in Kurtkoy, Istanbul.
