Richard Leakey

Richard Erskine Frere Leakey (born December 19, 1944), son of Louis Leakey and Mary Leakey, became known for following in his parents' footsteps with discoveries of early hominid fossils in East Africa. His most famous discovery was that of Turkana Boy, a nearly complete skeleton of a 9-year-old hominid who died 1.5 million years ago.

More recently Leakey has played a prominent role in politics and conservation in East Africa.
