HRH Prince Emanuele Filiberto Umberto Reza Rene Maria of Savoy, Prince of Venice and Piedmont- part of the house of Savoy which was founded in 1032; ruled Italy from 1861 until 1946, when the monarchy was abolished and King Umberto II, Emanuele's grandfather, went into exile. Until the Senate lifted the ban in 2002, male heirs were forbidden to set foot on Italian soil.
Born on June 22, 1972 in Geneva, Switzerland to Prince Vittorio Emanuele and Princess Marina. Prince Emanuele was educated at Institute Le Rosey in Switzerland. He married French actress Clotilde Courau in Rome, Italy on the 25th of September 2003 and welcomed the birth of their daughter, Vittoria Cristina Adelaide Chiara Maria on the 29th of December of the same year.
In 2001, he founded the Prince of Venice Foundation to promote 'cultural diversity' and his interests include being a licensed pilot for helicopters and planes; owns Ducati and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, an Aston Martin and an AC Cobra. He has also published two books, including Sognando L'Italia (Dreaming of Italy), a memoir about growing up in exile.
