Neuquén is a province of Argentina, located in the west of the country. The capital is Neuquén. The province has a population of 474,155 (2001), and covers an area of 94,078 km². It borders the province Mendoza to the north, corners with the province La Pampa, Rio Negro is to the southeast, and Chile to the west. It is at the northern end of Patagonia.
On July 27 1955 the Neuquén territory was elevated to a province.
The province is divided in 16 departments (spanish departamentos).
