National Library of Australia

The National Library of Australia is located in Canberra, Australia.

The library was established in 1960 and grew out of the Federal Parliamentary Library. In that year, it was separated from it by it by the National Library Act 1960.

In 1968, a new building was built for it on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

The Copyright Act 1968 requires that a copy of every book published in Australia be deposited in the National Library of Australia, and in the appropriate state library.

The library also issues cataloguing-in-publication, ISSNs and ISMNs for Australian publishers.

Key developments in recent years include PictureAustralia, Australia Dancing, MusicAustralia, Kinetica, numerous online and onsite exhibitions, an online shop.
