Meridian Gate (午门) is the second gate within the Forbidden City.
From this location during the Ming and Qing dynasties the Emperor of China reviewed his troops.
Previously, people who were to be executed were dragged here. The execution would take place here as well.
When proceeding northward through the palace grounds, the next major gate encountered is the Gate of Supreme Harmony.
