Lime Street Station is the principal railway station in Liverpool, England.
Lime Street Station was originally built in 1836, and was at the end of a long incline down from Edge Hill along which trains were hauled by stationary engine.
The station has two overall glazed roofs, the larger of which (with a span of 70 metres) was the world's largest at the time of its completion in 1857.
The concourse has a ticket office, travel centre, snack bars, two pubs, and a number of shops and kiosks.
Nine platforms are in use in the mainline station, and one platform in the low level (underground) station, to which lifts and escalators give access, and which serves Merseyrail's Wirral Line, with two trains per hour each to Chester and Ellesmere Port, and four per hour each to West Kirby and New Brighton.
