Jonas Bronck or Jonas Jonson Brunk (1600-1643) was a Swedish immigrant to the United States. In 1639 he acquired on a piece of land located straight across the from the island of Manhattan. The farm came to be known "Bronck's land", and that is the origin for the name of The Bronx, a burough of New York City.
