Freedom Scientific

Freedom Scientific is a corporation which researches, creates and sells technology to blind people, including software which uses voice synthesizers and the braille code.

Freedom Scientific was created in April 2000 when three companies merged. The three companies were Henter-Joyce, founded in 1985 by Ted Henter, which manufactured the Jaws software, Blazie Engineering, founded in 1986 by Deane Blazie, which manufactured note takers which used voice synthesizers and braille, as well as printers which printed computer files in Braille and braille windows for computers, and Arkenstone, which was founded in 1989 by Jim Fruchterman which produces scanners for blind people that read print books and documents through voice synthesizers and braille displays. Freedom Scientific still sells all of these products, and its technology is still expanding. The founders of all three of the companies are still on the board of directors. Its President and CEO is Dr. Lee Hamilton. It is headquartered in Saint Petersburg, Florida, it has a computer lab in Palo Alto, California, and its European center is located in Germany.
