Ferdinand Lassalle (April 11, 1825 - August 31, 1864), German politician.

Although Lassalle had been a member of the Communist League in 1848 his politics were strongly opposed by Karl Marx and Freindrich Engels. As a result Marx's supporters in Germany did not join the Allgemeiner Deutscher Arbeiterverein (roughly German Worker's Society) on May 23, 1863.

Lassalle's ADAV was in part financially supported by monies obtained by Lassalle through his personal relations. These same relations resulted in a duel and his death.
