David Raksin (August 4, 1912 - August 9, 2004) was an American composer of music. He is considered the grandfather of film music, with many film and TV scores to his credit. He wrote the theme to the movie Laura, which has been recorded by numerous artists over the years.
He also taught courses at the University of Southern California.
His son, Alex, is a Pulitzer Prize winning editorial writer for the Los Angeles Times.
