Cory Doctorow



         


Cory Doctorow was born July 17, 1971 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) to Trotskyist school teachers. Currently he is a science fiction author and copyright reform activist. Some common themes of his work include Disney, filesharing, socialist uptopias and junk. He won the John W. Campbell Award for best new writer in 2000 and the Sunburst award for A Place So Foreign and Eight More in 2004. He lives in London and works as European Outreach Coordinator for the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Doctorow has made electronic versions of the complete text of two of his novels and a short story collection free for download on his website, released under a Creative Commons licence. Recently, he expanded the licence terms of some of his works to allow derivative works for non-commercial purposes.
