An award is an achievement given to a person or group of people to recognize excellence in a certain field. Trophies, certificates, and plaques are common award objects. Oftentimes, the award is given periodically with the recipients' names engraved on the object, which is then placed in a prominent location in a building or room. This is a common business practice to reward an 'employee of the month.'
In Australia an award is also a minimum wage, based on the skills required for a particular occupation.
