Alfred Mond



         


Alfred Moritz Mond, 1st Baron Melchett (1868 - 1930) was a British industrialist.

Mond was the son of Ludwig Mond. In 1902, he founded the Mond nickel works at Clydach, Wales, the largest in the world at the time. He was Liberal MP for Swansea 1910-23 and Carmarthen 1924-8 before entering the House of Lords as 1st Baron Melchett. He was Minister of Health in 1922. From his interests came ICI (1926), of which he was the first chairman.
