- Traian Vuia: a short powered flight without headwind or catapult assisted takeoff. Not launched from a height.
September
- September 30 - The Gordon Bennett Trophy for ballooning is awarded for the first time. It goes to Lt Frank Lahm of the US Army, who flies 647 km (402 miles) in the balloon United States.
