The 11 o'clock news is the standard term for news programs that are broadcasted at 11:00 p.m. local standard time. Most of the 11 o'clock news are re-runs from older stories and have the sole purpose of informing late TV watchers from successes and facts that happened earlier in the day. Also, they might be a follow up from a developing story. The stock phrase "film at 11" comes from promos run interstitially between prime time news broadcasts, promising shots from a breaking story during the 11 o'clock news.
The current 11:00 p.m. news broadcasting channels as of March 2004 in the city of New York were: WCBS, WNBC, WABC, WLIW, WNYE, WXTV, WNJU, WNJN, WLNY.
